Sisters Living With Alopecia October Newsletter

October Bulletin

Sisters Living With Alopecia's first 2K Walk/Festival was a success! The event was held in Jacksonville, AR at the Dupree Park.  The weather was perfect.  A little over 100 people (11 of which attended had Alopecia) came up to show their support. Mostly attended were local supporters but there were a few people who traveled a great distance to attend. A family drove from Brinkley, AR who has an 8 year daughter with Alopecia Universalis, Dr. Amerson (Doctor of Trichcology and an avid supporter of Alopecia and SLWA INC.)  travelled from Arlington, TX and a family who has a 10 year old son with Alopecia drove from Fort Smith, AR.  The registration began at 7:00 AM and the walk began at 7:30 AM. The walk began every thirty minutes thereafter until 10:30 am.

The youngest child with Alopecia at the walk was 3 years old. He was such a joy to be around. This young man just recently started losing his hair.  Several people came to the 2K walk and support this little man alongside with his beautiful emotional mother. It was hard for the founder of SLWA to fight back tears a well. Stacie Ferrell-Tucker stated, "God chose me to be the voice for children and women with Alopecia. I remember how I felt, when I first lost my hair. There was no immediate support. If I can put a smile on a face or bring comfort or lend encouragement to a mother, child or woman who is affected by Alopecia or gain more social acceptance or educate more people, then I am living my purpose. I am not doing this for fame or money. I am doing this because hurting people hearts need to blessed and healed and not feel ashamed or hide their condition."

There were prizes available to the walkers. The winners were pulled every hour. There were other prizes available to win at the carnival games or Alopecia Bingo game. This was a great day to spend with family and friends. The Alopecia Festival had fishing tournament, a kid zone, free food and live entertainment. Sound was provided by Arkansas Most Wanted DJ. They partnered up with SLWA INC. and offered their time and service for this worthy event! Other volunteer groups included Real Rock Ryders, they did the grilling and lead the 2K Walk, Team USA Blue Diamonds, they offered face painting, nail polishing and also did a dance routine.

Entertainment included a fashion show. Some of the models were Arnesha, Morgan, Landon and others. The fashion show was organized by Natasha Crook and Tammy Underwood. Additional entertainment included Sydney Washington, Glitz & Glam Dancers, Rapper artist LeDawn.

Business vendors included CASA, Etniq Minerals, Sosensa, Hair Essentials, J'Salounge, Justin Time Fitness, Angela Donahue with  It Works Body Wrap and more.
